Manuscript Review Process
Editorial Procedures and Peer Review
All submitted manuscripts to the Economic Review of the European Union will first be reviewed by an in-house editorial team member or subject specialist to ensure compliance with the journal's submission guidelines and ethical policies. Manuscripts that do not meet the ethical standards or quality criteria of the journal will be rejected at this initial stage, prior to peer review.
Manuscripts requiring revisions to align with the journal’s formatting or preparation standards will be returned to the authors for resubmission. Once properly prepared, the Managing Editor will consult with the Senior Editor, Associate Editor, or Guest Editor (or with the Editor-in-Chief if necessary) to evaluate whether the manuscript fits the journal's scope and meets the basic scientific standards. This evaluation will focus on the manuscript’s scope and scientific integrity without assessing its significance or impact at this stage. Decisions to reject a manuscript at this point are final and not open to appeal.
Reviewer Suggestions
During submission, authors are encouraged to suggest four potential reviewers. Please propose two international reviewers from countries with advanced academic or industrial expertise and two national reviewers with strong research and innovative backgrounds. The editorial team may or may not choose to contact the suggested reviewers. Include comprehensive contact information for the proposed referees (e.g., address, website, phone number, email). Proposed reviewers should not have collaborated with the authors within the past two years and should be from different institutions than the authors. Additionally, suggested reviewers should not have any conflict of interest with the authors. Authors are welcome to suggest reviewers from the Economic Review of the European Union Editorial Board or from scholars they frequently cite in their work.
English Language Corrections
To ensure a smooth peer review process, all manuscripts must be submitted in grammatically correct English. Non-native English-speaking authors are advised to have their manuscripts professionally edited or reviewed by a native English-speaking colleague prior to submission. While all accepted manuscripts will undergo a final language check, additional fees may apply for extensive corrections. These fees are based on the level of editing required.
